OVERVIEW
The project was to create a self-portrait that included text in creative and expressive ways. We explored new and unexpected materials and processes to create a self-portrait that best expressed who we are as people and designers. For my project, I wanted to portray a bit of my fine art abilities into my project as it was the start of my designing career. Even if everything was accomplished digitally, I wanted to have a fine art and painterly reflection in the portrait.
SKETCHES / BRAINSTORMING
The initial ideas involved hidden meaning, when you "peel" the initial portrait to reveal the words underneath of true self.
Most of the ideas plays into my strength of being a regular fine artist. My favorite mediums are acrylic paint and watercolors so I wanted to reflect that in the portrait.
The ideas felt much darker than reflected in comparison to the words that would describe who I am as a designer and what my inspirations are.
DESIGN PROCESS
The one particular idea that fell through is a watercolor background and working with a singular line to create the self-portrait. Specific areas of the self-portrait will be filled with text and for additional dimension, the areas without text is filled with dots, which touches on Pop Art.
